Watch Dr Brittany Wakefield’s latest message about the menopause
New research from UQ has linked the vasomotor symptoms of menopause such as hot flushes and night sweats to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Heart disease is one of the most common causes of death in women, but a lot of women consider themselves to be less at risk and so are less likely to be screened for cardiovascular disease.
The vasomotor symptoms of menopause can interfere with your enjoyment of life and are not something “you need to put up with”. They can often be effectively treated with menopausal hormonal therapy (MHT) and there is some evidence to suggest it may have the added advantage of reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
