National Diabetes Week starts next week

Did you know:

Diabetes causes heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, limb amputation, depression and blindness?

1 in 4 or 1 in 5 people with diabetes do not know they have it?

For women, having Gestational Diabetes in pregnancy is a significant risk factor for later diabetes (1 in 4) ?

A simple blood test can identify diabetes?

This year paying attention to reducing the chances of becoming diabetic or optimising control of known diabetes is more important then ever as we have been less active and probably eating less healthily due to COVID19.

The symptoms of diabtetes can be found on this Diabetes UK website. If you have any of these you should seek an appointment with your doctor to arrange further assessment and testing.

You can calculate your chances of becoming diabetic over the next 5 years using the The AUSDRisk tool at the Diabetes Australia Website. People aged 40 to 49 years (inclusive) with a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes using this tool are entitled to a Medicare assisted Extended Health Assessment. If you would like to access an extended Health Assessment book with your doctor.

The earlier diabetes is identified the easier it will be to control. Book a telephone or video appointment on line or call 07 3216 8500 .
